Care for Change

Our new peer mentoring programme with 15 care experienced 'Experts By Experience' Youth Mentor who are ready to make change.

  • Community Fund

This peer-mentoring project is led by young people, working directly with their peers to identify and address emerging issues as a result of the pandemic.  It builds upon Include Youth’s Expert by Experience’ (EBE) model of participation which advocates for and empowers young people to lead.

The project is starting in September 2022 and will employ 15 care experienced EBE’s across the 6 Give and Take sites, who will be supported and trained to mentor other young people to become change makers and policy advocates. The Care for Change project will be overseen by a Skills and Participation Coordinator, who will assess needs and implement support, thereby enabling EBE’s to build skills, capacity and knowledge required to support other care-experienced young people to develop, achieve and progress in all aspects of their lives

The main project activities will involve mentoring support, contributing to consultations and policy responses, meeting with key decision-makers, co-facilitating focus groups and other group work with the site youth worker, leading on personal and social development opportunities, employability skills training, media and social media training, and working closely with Include Youth’s communications team to identify and target new audiences. The EBE’s will also be supported to create a directory of services for care-experienced young people regionally.
