Give and Take

Our Give & Take Scheme improves the employability and increases the self-esteem and confidence of young people aged 16+, who are not ready to take part in a training course, attend college or move into work.

About the programme

Give & Take is a regional youth work intervention project to support young people aged 16 to 24 years old, who are care experienced, including those who may be at risk of child sexual exploitation, and young people living in disadvantaged communities.

The programme runs from 7 bases and operates regionally, covering every area of Northern Ireland.

Give and Take is the umbrella project that offers individually tailored programmes with core themes being;

  • Personal development
  • Essential skills
  • Mentoring
  • Transitional support

There are 5 individual programmes within this, these are;

71% of young people engaged in the programme moved on to education or training (2020-2021)

Give and Take Core

Give and Take Core is a 12-24month programme for young people aged 16-21 which is delivered across 7 sites

(Belfast, Ballymena, Armagh, Omagh, Lisburn, Enniskillen and Derry)

The service offers a supportive space to prepare for employment, education and training.

Give and Take Core has contacts with all 5 Health and Social Care Trusts to deliver this service.

Give and Take Outreach

Give and Take Outreach is a group work programme that helps young people develop their skills and confidence. It offers support to help young people sustain their place within mainstream employment, training, and education.

Give and Take One to One

Give and Take One to One is a personal development and employability  programme that supports young people who are at risk of or have experienced Child Sexual Exploitation. It builds on protective factors and helps to improve their health and wellbeing in a supportive way.

Give and Take Transitions

The Transitions service provides practical, social and emotional support for care experienced young people who are taking the next step into mainstream employment, training and education. It offers individual support to help young people maintain the longevity of their steps.

Give and Take Start

Start is an employability programme that offers a youth work approach to help young people develop confidence, personal development, a sense of direction and gain vocational qualifications. It is aimed at young people aged 16-24 in the Greater Belfast, North Down and Ards area, delivered in partnership with Northern Ireland Alternatives.
