Belfast Trust Supporting Care Leavers' Into Employment

STAFF from across 11 departments at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust hosted a job fair for young people in or leaving care to help inspire careers and job roles within the Trust.

More than 70 young people enjoyed interactive sessions at eight different exhibition areas involving 20 Trust employees at the RADAR centre in Belfast on August 17 2016.

Hilary Walker, Children's Services Manager at Belfast Trust, said:

“When young people are given a real opportunity to learn about different job roles and meet with staff and employers, we know from experience that they are more likely to gain meaningful work.

“Across our Belfast Health and Social Care Trust departments we see so many young care leavers' thriving in their work. I would like to thank all the staff, managers and Directors across the Trust for giving these young people such beneficial experiences and engaging with our employability initiatives."

The event was organised by the Belfast Trust Employability Service, which is delivered in partnership between Include Youth and Start360, and more than 30 social worker, personal advisors and key workers also attended.

Gary Cooper, from Include Youth, said:

“We wanted to build on the success of previous Trust events and take the young people's feedback to ensure the day allowed as much interaction with potential employers as possible.

“It was great to see so many departments represented by a range of people on the day; we had everything from nurses to maintenance staff, domestic to admin staff, senior managers to support service staff. The event was very engaging and the young care leavers' who demonstrated a particular interest in a role or department will have an opportunity to take part in a work place tour to find out even more in coming weeks."

Roisin Murphy, from Start360, said:

“The high volume of care experienced young people attending today's job fair demonstrates their interest in pursuing a career within the Trust. The event was a success because of the dedication, creativity and involvement of the Trust staff before and during the event. I would like to say a big thank you to all involved in today's job fair."
