Hydebank Young Offenders' Centre accommodates all young male offenders aged between 17 and 21 years on conviction, serving a period of four years or less in custody and all female prisoners including young offenders.
Young Voices
Often young people in need or at risk do not have their voices heard; yet suffer the consequences of inadequate policies and poor services.
Young Voices, which began in 2002, is aimed at supporting these young people to effectively engage in public policy development and influence the service delivery impacting their lives.
The young people we work with include:
Young people in custody in Woodlands Juvenile Justice Centre and Hydebank Young Offenders' Centre
Young people in the community who have been involved in the criminal justice system or are at risk of becoming involved
Young people in the community looking at issues concerning community safety and policing
Young Voices seeks to make sure the voice of these young people is heard and acted upon by organisational representatives, policy-makers, decision-makers and those responsible for service delivery and the young people, either by advocating on their behalf or where possible facilitating direct interaction.
The Young Voices team adopts a youth work approach in all they do, building positive relationships with the young people so that they are listened to, respected, not judged and supported to participate voluntarily at all times.
